Vijayadasami

Finally 9th October 2008 - Vijay dasami, the tenth and the last day of dasara. This day marks the occasion of Lord Rama worshiping Goddess Durga for blessings to win over Ravana.
During dasara, especially on the eight and ninth days, people perform poojas to their machinery and vehicles.
On Durgastami (eight day) the machinery is worshiped and on Maharnavami (ninth day) the vehicles. It is believed that Lord Arjuna worshiped his bow and arrow on this day.

Dasara

Dasara, also known as Navaratri is the time of worshiping the Goddess. Goddess is very powerful. Each day (in the 9 days), the goddess is decorated in various avatars and is worshiped. One of the ways to celebrate this festival (as I do) is to perform the respective goddess Ashtotram (recite the 108 names of the goddess) and then read Sree Lalitha Sahasranamam and then offer the prasadam that is for that day.
The following are the avatars of the godess.

Durga
Bala Tripura Sundari
Gayathri
Annapurna
Lalitha
Lakshmi
Saraswathi
Raja rajeshwari
Mahishasura mardhini

Water Falls again

This is my second article on water falls. (First one on Niagara Falls )This time the Talakona falls in the Nallamalai forest range in Chittor District of Andhra Pradesh. It was a wonderful experience :). The falls is located 76kms from Tirupathi.
Once we have crossed the villages on the way, we enter the forest and hill area in Nallamalai. It is one of the film shooting places.
On the way to Talakona
Then the place where the actual waterfall area starts is a lord Shiva temple. And here are the cottages of the AP tourism also.

At this place the waterfalls area starts and there is the forest department check point. And then after going for a kilometer inside we need to park the vehicles and start walking towards the falls. The area is filled with monkeys. There are so many of them that they start surrounding the vehicles to see if they can get anything to eat and surround the people to scratch anything in their hand. So we need to should not carry anything to avoid the monkey attack. Once you show them your empty hands they never bother to come to you.
Monkey on the railing
When we keep walking and climbing small but many steps (natural stone ones not the tiles) crossing the water flow, we come to the place where the water falls on the ground. The falls is actually on the rocks so we wont observe a direct fall as in Niagara.
Then from here we can climb up to one of the nearest point into the falls. But this time the steps are more narrow and more uneven. We need to take the rock support on one side and on the other side is the valley down. Though it has railing it is not a good support to rely on and walk.
It needs energy to climb up and then we get the falls. Beware here we need to walk barefoot for the rock floor is soo very slippery because of the continuous water flow. We did not remove them as we were not aware of it and went to a point near the drizzle. We did not go into the falls. I started holding the unreliable railing and looking down. I was then told not to do so as it was the edge point where one could easily slip and fall down into the flow.
There is a path further up onto the top of the hill but that was deadly narrower path. Then was climbed down the path.
On the return way to the forest area check point we find a Giant Climber. This is climber is 4 kms long and very old. It takes the support of other trees around which die in due course. So imagine how old this might have been.

Talakona is one of the best places where nature is at its best.
Need to take care of the following while going to this place:
1. Always go in a group as the entire path is lonely.
2. Beware of monkeys and try not to carry anything in hand.
3. Be careful not to go to the edges as the railing is not enough to support at some places.
4. Do not go with footwear near the falls.

New Place - New Experience

Heard of Golden Temple ? hmm.. yes.. Amritsar... hmmm... but now we have one more that is the Sripuram temple - South Indian Golden temple of Godess Lakshmi that is located at Tirumalaikodi around 8kms from Vellore of Tamil Nadu. The temple is very beautifully constructed.

The entire temple is in gold

The path to reach the temple is in the star shape of around 1.5 - 2 kms long. Preachings of Gita, Bible and Khuran have been written on display boards on either side of the path (Blue arrows path into the temple and pink path out of the temple)

There is water around the temple and in the night due to the lights, the temple reflection is seen in that water.

The temple was initiated by Narayani Amma, (31yrs old person) and constructed by seeking donations from people. The total area is around 100 acres and a cost of more than rupess 300 crores was spent. The estimate is around 600 crores once the entire project is completed. The temple was open for darshan in august 2007.

It is a very noble and wonderful gift to the mankind.

How to interpret a binary clock !

I was looking at the Google gadgets and one thing that really struck me was the Binary clock. It was interesting and a new thing that liked me a lot. I was curious to know how it worked.
The working goes something like this in just three simple steps :
1) It consists of 6 columns - first two are hours, next two are minutes and the last two are seconds.
2) Each row represents the binary equivalent value as 1,2,4,8.. from the bottom.
3) Then, we need to covert the highlighted dots (1's) in terms of decimal system by multiplying it with its binary equivalent.
4) Now sum the values of each column

Bingo !! There we will get the time in HH:MM:SS (24 hours).
Something like this below

How easy is our job !

I have been to a railway reservation counter recently and while standing in the 'Q', i was wondering the amount of patience the executives there should be having. They need to interact with sooo many customers, with sooo many queries.. each having their own requirement. On an average, the executive must be handling at least 10 people in an hour and just hats off to those people. Same is the case with all those people who interact with the customer for soo long, like doctors, sales executives, etc., They may love their job but still...
In comparison with the software industry where the client interaction will be every now and then or at the most once per day and for that only we may get frustrated at times... we will be nowhere to these people.

Wonderful test match to watch

While watching the Indians bating - first innings of the 2nd test match Vs Aus, i just loved it. It was very exciting the way Sachin, Laxman and other players played their innings. Though i watched the match only every now and then, I just felt i should watch the match for the entire day completely.... Each day of the Indian innings had its own beauty. Sachin made his century after sooo many misses and shut the mouth of soo many critics. Laxman known for his bad running between the wickets as well as good player vs aus - again proved himself.
Ha... and all that was spoilt because of whatever is happening...
This is definetely an even that none of the indian cricket fans can forget nor can the players..
Lets hope things will get better and we will have fair players and a fair game

Why is Dravid eating so many balls? Is he so hungry ?

I feel a Test Cricket opener should use or face as many balls as possible. This will make the ball used and it will ease the other batsmen who can play later to play better.
Why are we not understanding this but blaming Dravid for eating up so many balls and scoring few runs.
In the first test match of India Vs Australia, Dravid used 66+114 =180 and scored only 5+16 = 21 runs and there were many talks on changing Dravid from opening to down the order.
I agree that batsmen needs to keep the score board running or atleast walking ;) (second test Dravid scored 1 run after 40 balls - in the middle of his innings) but there is other side of the coin that we were not realizing.
Is he not making the ball lose its shine and become an old ball. Wont it not be easier now for other batsmen to play better. Why are the other batsmen unable to continue the game better ??Looks like Million $ ?s ?? ;)
