Long Hours In the Office - Does that mean you work more ??

I am a person who prefer coming early, work and leave early.... (Early does not mean before time.... After working for the required hrs on the day)
And most of the people in most of the offices (especially the new generation) and even in my office - come to the office, work, and also go home... But they go home late ... I don't know what time theyyyy go as I will be one of the persons to leave early...
Now the question is: you stay for more time in the office - means you work more????
I do not agree with this .... I come early, do my work and then leave... Does that mean I work less than the others who leave late... No infact there are people who come to the office... Work... chat...... and then leave late... I am not saying I wont chat or surf the internet... or do anything and only work... I do them but concentrate more on the task assigned to me and complete it.... I feel means are not important but ends are.. so until you complete the task on or before time it should not matter...

People are of the impression that you stay for loong hours in the office and you work so hard.... I don't mean this is the case with everyone.. there are people work and utilize the time purposefully and on the other hand there are people who do very less work and spend time doing other things...... my views are only meant for the second part...
Office, work, money is not everything.... we have other things in life also to do.. our own personal life.. when should we spend time for ourselves..... just the two days on the weekend??
This is the same case with any job..... We are interested in working but not working alll the time 24*7 and 365 days .....
I feel flexitime and work from home may be good solutions but they do have their own pros and cons..
